David Paul, Inventor and Founder of LedgerShield, LLC, discovered several safety issues stemming from improper application of code standards to Ledger Flashing products widely available on the market. These products have failed, leading to deck and balcony collapses with thousands of injuries and hundreds of fatalities. 

Based on R703.4 Flashing standards, existing butyl ledger flashing products are tested for nail sealability using roofing nails or #8 wood screws. This means that existing products don't test using real-world deck fastening hardware, so products are not being proven correctly. While we are working to fix that from a code and testing standpoint, our product is the only ledger flashing system that exceeds the AAMA 711 rating using the correct fasteners.
